The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Principal Engineer to play a pivotal role in building and iterating on their platform. They're a dynamic and collaborative team working at the forefront of individual engagement for climate action. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in a fast-paced environment, where quick experimentation and adaptation are key to finding product-market fit.

The project

Our client is a technology start-up working to drive individual engagement in positive verifiable climate action. This is an exciting opportunity to use your talent and skills to put a novel solution into the market at a tipping point in public awareness and engagement in climate.


Main responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of the client's platform, including backend APIs, frontend UI, and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Champion an iterative development approach, driving innovation and technical excellence while help confirm product market fit
  • Balance the need for speed and experimentation with building maintainable and scalable code once feature validation is achieved.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to translate user needs into high-quality, user-centric features.
  • Participate in architectural decisions that optimize for rapid testing and iteration while laying the foundation for future growth.
  • Manage and troubleshoot complex technical problems across the entire stack.
  • Continuously learn and apply new technologies to enhance the platform's capabilities.
  • Compile and review technical estimates to ensure project timelines and resource allocation are realistic.

Your qualifications and experience

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of shipping production-level code.
  • Engineering leadership experience, including team member mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and architectural decision making.
  • Experience building a product that was in the product/market fit phase.
  • Experience scaling a consumer product after product/market fit was found.
  • In-depth knowledge of full-stack development, including:
    • Backend technologies: Node.js with NestJS, GraphQL
    • Frontend technologies: React Native 
    • Databases: PostgreSQL
    • Cloud infrastructure: AWS (databases, containers, and serverless functions) managed with Terraform
  • Experience with CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a
    related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • A passion for climate action and a desire to contribute to a meaningful mission.
